Marty was appointed the pastor of FUMC Bay Minette in July 2019. He and his wife Heather have three sons and eight grandchildren. His undergraduate degree is from Troy State University (1983). He worked as a Probation Officer in the State of Georgia for 14 years before beginning seminary. He received a Master of Divinity degree from Asbury Theological Seminary in 2003 and was ordained an Elder in the Alabama-West Florida Conference of the United Methodist Church in June 2009. Marty’s heart is to make disciples for Jesus who show the world the love, grace, and redemption of Jesus Christ.
Cris Smith – Director of Music
Cris has been part of the ministry team at FUMC Bay Minette since 2001. His first Sunday was the Sunday following the 9/11 terrorist attack. The sense of belonging he felt through the faithfulness of the FUMC family that day continues to encourage and strengthen him.
Prior to coming to FUMC, Cris helped serve the ministries of Chickasaw United Methodist, St. Mark United Methodist in Mobile, and Baddour Memorial Center, a United Methodist agency in Senatobia, MS. When not at First United Methodist Church, Cris works as the Director of Annual Giving at Spring Hill College, Mobile, AL.
Abby Bennett – Youth Director
Abby Bennett comes from Louisville Kentucky, where she studied Christian Ministries at Asbury University in Wilmore, KY. Abby and her husband, Hunter have called Alabama home for the past 3 years. Currently, Abby is studying marriage and family counseling at Asbury Seminary in their hybrid program. Abby feels she is called to serve children, youth, and their families. Abby is passionate about equipping families for success and healing, and she strives to provide outlets such as art and holistic listening for children and youth to grow in their faith. Abby is beyond excited to grow and serve with the congregation and community of First United Methodist Church of Bay Minette.”
Tiffany Bekurs – Office Administrator
Tiffany is the Administrative Assistant to Pastor Marty Hamilton. In addition to that, Tiffany is responsible for managing the church membership database, creating the Sunday bulletins, coordinating the church calendar as well as the person who floods your email inbox with useful information about what is happening weekly at FUMC Bay Minette. She strives to make sure everyone feels welcome when they come to the church office. She has been on staff since 2018. She is married to Bill Bekurs and they have a son, Tyler and daughter, Anna Catherine.
